Terms of Use
These are the terms for using Véda ("the app"), provided by AryaVedics, LLC ("we"). By using the app you agree to them. They are short because the app does one thing; the privacy policy covers your data in full and is part of these terms.
What the app is
The app photographs your face, measures visible properties of the skin in the photo — redness, texture, pores, spots, acne, evenness and wrinkles — on your phone (on an iPhone, for now, briefly on our server) and shows you how those measurements change over time. The measurements are made by software from a phone photograph, and they vary with lighting, camera, distance and the time of day. They are most useful as a trend across many readings taken in similar conditions, and least useful as a single number.
What the app is not
It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. It does not diagnose, treat, prevent or monitor any condition. Nothing it shows you is a substitute for seeing a doctor or dermatologist, and you should not make decisions about your health, or start or stop any treatment, on the basis of its numbers. If something on your skin worries you, see a professional.
Your account
The app creates an account for you automatically on first launch, tied to your phone. You may add an email and password to sign in on another phone. You are responsible for keeping that password to yourself, and for anything done through your account. Your photos stay on your phone and the measurements from each reading are stored on our service. Deleting the app removes the photos with it but does not delete the measurements; Profile → Delete account does.
Using the app properly
- Photograph only your own face. The one exception is “Let someone try it” in Profile, where the other person agrees to the privacy policy themselves, on the screen, before their photo is taken. Do not photograph anyone who has not done that.
- You must be at least 18 to use the app.
- Do not try to interfere with the service, access other people's data, or use the service in a way that stops it working for others. Requests are rate-limited; a client that exceeds the limits is refused for a while.
Your photos and data
Your photos and readings are yours. Your photos stay on your phone; we store the measurements from them to provide the service to you and to improve the accuracy of the measurements for everyone, as the privacy policy describes, and you can export or delete them at any time. You give us permission to measure your photos (on your phone, or on an iPhone for now briefly on our server, then they are discarded) and to store and process the measurements for those two purposes and no other.
Changes and availability
The app is under active development. We may change how measurements are calculated (the version of the analysis is recorded with every reading so old and new readings are not silently mixed), add or remove features, require an update to keep using the app, or stop providing the service. If we stop, we will give you the chance to export your data first where we reasonably can. We do not promise the service will always be available or free of errors.
No warranty; limits on liability
The app is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the app or reliance on its measurements — including any decision about your skin or health made on the basis of them. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Ending things
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. On closure, your data is deleted as described in the privacy policy.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms materially, the app will ask you to agree again before you can take another reading, and the version you agreed to is recorded. The version number and effective date at the top of this page say which terms apply.
